“Treasures of the World” at the National Museum

Hey there!

So we discovered that the British Museum in London was showcasing some of the oldest exhibits and artefacts from all over the world (hence, the titular name “Treasures of the World”) at the oldest museum in Singapore, the National Museum (how apt)!

Hiking at Lower & Upper Peirce!

Hey everyone!

This week, we cover our hike through the heart of Singapore (literally), at two scenic reservoirs, namely the Upper Peirce and Lower Peirce Reservoir. These neighbouring reservoirs serve as water catchment areas, and form part of the network of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Further, the flora and fauna surrounding the reservoirs provide a natural setting for visitors and hikers alike! We had the benefit and guidance of Sandra’s close friend, Sarah, to lead us in this naturalistic adventure around some of Singapore’s oldest reservoirs!

Holga (Lens) Madness!

Many of our close friends know that we have a keen interest in film cameras! Our initial knowledge and exposure (pun intended eh heh) of film cameras was the Holga Camera (notwithstanding those disposable film cameras we grew up using). While researching online about the different types of Holga cameras, we stumbled upon a variety of Holga accessories, including Holga lenses for DSLRs cameras and iPhones, phone apps mimicking Holga effects, Holga lenses for Fuji Instax cameras, DIGITAL Holga cameras and even “Holgaroids” (Instant Film backing with Holga cameras).

Clearly, we were spoilt for choice!

Hiking along the Green Corridor Trail

Hey there! For all our long-time readers, you might find this week’s entry familiar to one of our first posts, namely our hiking trip along the Southern Ridges (you can check out that post here)! This week’s entry is likewise focused on keeping fit and healthy, so we embarked on a long trail along Singapore’s forgotten railway tracks! Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

Hello everyone! This weekend marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is commemorated by Christians worldwide. We wish everyone a fruitful Easter Weekend! Unfortunately, with the weekend almost cover it’s time to get back to work/school/ bumming around (eh heh).

This week, we visit an old landmark in Singapore’s history, and it has to do with trains! The Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was built in 1932, and as the former main train station in Singapore, trains took passengers to and from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The railway station was eventually closed in 2011, and it was gazetted as a national monument. Woodlands Checkpoint still has train services, so don’t fret if you need your ‘quick’ getaway to Malaysia or simply wish to try out a train that doesn’t run on MRT tracks (eh heh).

Rocher Centre: A Last Goodbye

In 2011, the Singapore government announced that Rochor Centre was being demolished to make way for a new expressway. When we were reminded just last year that it would be demolished in 2016 (date unannounced), we knew that we simply had to capture its magnificence before it was gone for good!

Housespotting along Emerald Hill

Hey everyone! This week we explore yet another hidden gem in the heart of Singapore’s urban landscape: Emerald Hill!

For many locals, we often walk along Orchard Road, and miss the eclectic slope leading up to Emerald Hill. Amidst the towering shopping malls and modern architecture, the row of Peranakan shophouses can be deceptively inconspicuous. Sandra has a keen eye and noticed them, so we decided to take an unusual detour, and it felt like we were transported back into another time!
