Housespotting along Emerald Hill

Hey everyone! This week we explore yet another hidden gem in the heart of Singapore’s urban landscape: Emerald Hill!

For many locals, we often walk along Orchard Road, and miss the eclectic slope leading up to Emerald Hill. Amidst the towering shopping malls and modern architecture, the row of Peranakan shophouses can be deceptively inconspicuous. Sandra has a keen eye and noticed them, so we decided to take an unusual detour, and it felt like we were transported back into another time!

The Future of Us Exhibition

Hello there! After last week’s rather detailed entry on our latest exciting purchase, the Sonar SX-70 (check it out here), we decided to share about our latest escapade to Gardens by the Bay!

This week, we were given the opportunity to take a glimpse into the future at the Future of Us exhibition. As part of the SG50 celebrations (marking the 50th year of Singapore’s independence), the exhibition contemplates Singapore in 2030 and how our infrastructure, livelihood and day-to-day experiences may develop by then! We were quite intrigued by the idea, so we decided to take a look.

Hanging out at Haw Par Villa

Continuing on the blazing trail of our Chinese heritage, we visit a unique, otherworldly landmark known as the Haw Par Villa (aka Tiger Balm Gardens). The Haw Par Villa was opened by the Aw Brothers, whose family created the Tiger Balm ointment (used to cure headaches, muscle aches etc). It is internationally reputed, such that even UK pharmaceutical shops like Boots stock them! Fun Fact: Damian loves to use Tiger Balm (but we’re not sponsored in any way HAHA).

Instant Photography: Suntec City & Tanjong Pagar

Hey everyone!

This week we are sharing a light-hearted entry on Sandra’s favourite medium: instant film! Again, we used the Fujifilm’s instax mini 90 NEO CLASSIC and Lomography’s kickstarter project: the Lomo’Instant Camera. We took the opportunity to shoot instant films around Singapore’s Central Business District (CBD), specifically at Suntec City and Tanjong Pagar. As always, we experimented with the multiple exposure function, and we’re here to share our creations!

Ushering in the Lunar New Year at Chinese Gardens

Since Chinese New Year is just around the corner (literally less than a few hours away; yay to ang baos), we decided to pay a visit to one of Singapore’s remarkable but lesser known heritage sites, the Chinese and Japanese Gardens! Joining us for the first time on our photography adventure was Sandra’s friend, Kit Yeng, who is also a photography enthusiast like us!

Chinatown Lights: Year of the Monkey

Indeed, Chinese New Year is upon us once again! A yearly celebration of the New Year in the Chinese lunar calendar (note: NOT 1st Jan), the festivity is marked by striking red decorations (such as lanterns, crackers and, well, red packets), delicious traditional food (such as bak kwa, pineapple tarts and nian guo) and numerous get-together sessions between relatives, friends and even strangers!
