Holga Week 2017! – Holga with Instax Mini Colour Film

Hey everyone!

This week is Holga Week, and in tribute to the iconic ‘toy’ street camera, we have dedicated this week’s entry to our experiences with the Holga camera! Previously, we shared about Holga’s history and encounter with the Holga 120 GCFN; this time, we used the specially-developed instant film back for the Holga camera!

The Holga camera used to capture shots for Holga Week 2017 is the Holga 120GTLR! This model allows the user to look downwards through a separate viewfinder (as a homage to older twin-lens reflex cameras), but retains the unique noisy vignetting that the Holga camera is well known for. Interestingly, the “viewfinder” does not actually focus the lens which exposes the image. However, the viewfinder turned out to be pretty useful as it helped us to compose our image!

Check out our daily snaps and stories below:

Eid Mubarak @ Geylang Serai!

Hey everyone!

This week, we visited a popular hotspot for our Muslim friends in Singapore, where the festivity carries on into the late hours of the night: the Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar!

The Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar is opened for the whole period of Ramadan (26th May to 24th June this year); it comes alive especially at night, when the Muslims break fast and have their iftar (evening meal). The pasar malam (meaning night market) is packed to the brim with food and drink stalls and other shops selling Hari Raya- related items (over a thousand stalls!), and this gave us a chance to immerse in this festive celebration. Around the pasar malam, there were beautiful light decorations and banners, and so this gave us the chance to revisit our light photography skills and explore Geylang Serai! To this end, we brought along the SLR 680SE and the Petzval Lens to use with our Fujifilm XT-10!

Flying High Along MacRitchie TreeTop Walk!

Hey everyone!

This week, we set off on yet another trail-seeking adventure, this time around MacRitchie! The trails around MacRitchie are very popular, and having gone on a public holiday, we were not surprised at the throngs of people ambling along the man-made paths. Nevertheless, we intended to visit the famous MacRitchie TreeTop Walk, which required us to walk over 7 km! Prepared (with our usual mosquito repellent and bottles of water), we headed for the unique walking trail!

Thrifts and Thrills @ Jalan Sultan

Hey everyone!

This week we decided to revisit another Singaporean location in the midst of the city: Haji Lane and Jalan Sultan! Located in between Bugis and Lavender MRT, the winding roads and narrow streets houses different Peranakan-style shophouses, now occupied by many cafes, restaurants and shops!

More Flowers and Dye-Nosaurs @ Gardens by the Bay

Hey everyone!

Continuing from our coverage of the Flower Dome @ Gardens by the Bay, we promised we would introduce other events taking place at the well-known Gardens! One such event catering for children was the “Dye-Nosaur Gardens”, which brought to ‘life’ different dinosaurs living in the prehistoric times! We also included our Instax photos taken at the location, so be prepared to be inundated with flowers and dinosaurs!

Dazzling iLights @ Marina Bay

Hey everyone!

iLights @ Marina Bay has been the night lighting arts festival in Singapore for the last few years, but this was the first time that we were going for the event! The festival was held around the CBD in Singapore, notably around the Marina Promenade and Esplanade. We had the company of Kit Yeng, who was last seen on our website celebrating Chinese New Year @ Chinese Gardens. It was certainly very interesting, although it was pretty crowded (as it was the last weekend when we attended); nevertheless, we sought to enjoy ourselves with a bout of night photography using the Fujifilm X-T10 and the Mint Instantflex!

Awestruck by the Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) @ Gardens by the Bay!

Hey everyone!

We are soooooooooo excited to bring you this week’s entry, because for the first time, we got to see cherry blossoms in Singapore! Yes, these Japanese sakura were brought in from Japan, and immediately hyped up many Singaporeans to head to Gardens by the Bay, where the man-made garden held these beautiful flowers! We knew this was an opportunity to brush up on our macro/close-up photography, so we had our trusty Fujfilm X-T10 and the Mamiya Modified Instant Back for us to use!
