Dragon Playground @ Toa Payoh

Hey everyone!

Playgrounds are familiar places for us growing up, and Singapore certainly does not lack any! One can expect to find a playground consisting of slides, swings, see-saws, trazpee rings and climbers in any neighbourhood. However, there are some playgrounds in Singapore built in the 1970s that remain iconic and reflect an older generation of non-technology bound kids who run around playing catch, hide and seek and police-and-thief.

Sentosa’s Underwater World

Hey everyone!

So we’ve been spending the past three weeks describing (in some detail) our Taiwan trip (you can see the entries here, here and here). This week we return to our adventures in the sunny (note: very sunny) island of Singapore; this week’s place of interest will surely ring a bell (and even tug the heartstrings) of Singaporean everywhere!

The Underwater World at Sentosa was opened in the early 1990s, and was one of Singapore’s popular attractions. The 28-hectare oceanarium housed over 2,500 different marine animals during its lifetime. We both remembered visiting the Underwater World back in our primary school days, and as young, curious adolescents we were enthralled by the numerous sea creatures on display!

Final Snaps at Dakota Crescent

Dakota Crescent is one of Singapore’s oldest public housing. Built in the late 1950s, the iconic architecture have long been taken for granted. But since the announcement to redevelop the antiquated houses, no small amount of visitors have flocked to the quaint and unassuming housing estate, hoping to capture the last vestiges of Singapore’s first public housing.

“Treasures of the World” at the National Museum

Hey there!

So we discovered that the British Museum in London was showcasing some of the oldest exhibits and artefacts from all over the world (hence, the titular name “Treasures of the World”) at the oldest museum in Singapore, the National Museum (how apt)!

Makan Hunt @ Super Star K (Korean Food!!)

Hey everyone! It’s been a while, but this week we’re introducing another Makan Hunt (check out our first one here, featuring dim sum).

One of our favourite cuisine (but mostly Sandra’s) hails from the wonderful country of Korea! Korean food is well-known and a quasi-staple in Singapore, with various dishes making their way into the diet of Singaporeans- thinking of bibimbap, kimchi, Korean BBQ, ginseng chicken soup or bulgogi?

Hiking at Lower & Upper Peirce!

Hey everyone!

This week, we cover our hike through the heart of Singapore (literally), at two scenic reservoirs, namely the Upper Peirce and Lower Peirce Reservoir. These neighbouring reservoirs serve as water catchment areas, and form part of the network of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Further, the flora and fauna surrounding the reservoirs provide a natural setting for visitors and hikers alike! We had the benefit and guidance of Sandra’s close friend, Sarah, to lead us in this naturalistic adventure around some of Singapore’s oldest reservoirs!
